ABOUT US

Crass Lips was started in 2016 by Cam Alvarez, Gladys Nobriga and George Marquez with the intention of being a multi-branched collective of immigrants trying to carve out the space for themselves and others like them in the music world. It was created under the charitable-organization model, because we believe that labels should help artists for reasons that exist outside of the capitalist sphere.

Eventually George shifted focus to other endeavors and Donald Deyo joined, volunteering the majority of hours spent handmaking the merchandise ever since.

Since  2016,  we have been able to give free cassettes & CD's to over 100 artists (found here under Releases & Distro) and well as helped countless of them with booking their tours.

We also booked them at festivals we would throw such as Split Lip Service (Miami Art Basel), Psychobabes (LA),  Jimmy's Wurl (SXSW), womXn Fest (Miami Art Basel) and True Vine Fest (Baltimore) alongside headliners such as Lydia Lunch, Jad Fair and Mike Watt.

In 2019, Cam and Donald Deyo moved to Baltimore to  prevent their favorite record store - True Vine Record Shop - from closing by throwing it benefit shows, volunteering several days a week & creating an online shop for it.

The two continue to host shows and festivals, collect and issue rare records & tapes, create music together, perform and DJ at festivals as well as on the radio. Cam is focusing on booking more seriously than ever, as well as making monthly mixtapes for our Monthly Mystery Tape Club. Donald Deyo is working on solo-project ICE EBT as well as scores for films. Gladys moved to Philadelphia to focus on mutual aid through their collective Feed Your Head Collective and others, teaching sound-experimentation and their solo project Street Rat. All three continue to play and tour together as Period Bomb. Crass Lips is now booking tours, marketing and finding Sync work for larger artists outside the label like the legendary 'Punk Professor' Vivien Goldman, and many more found on our Booking Agency tab. We aim to open passageways for artists who have been ostracized, ignored or disenfranchised for being too boldly different, and encourage our community to embrace them and help catapult them into the mainstream. We have seen success in our mission by convincing larger and larger venues to book them, and by getting more and more dedicated followers who deeply appreciate the fresh art & music we bring to their stages as well as to their ears and eyes via Audio & Visual compilations of some of the highlights from these shows.
